SSC CHSL Exam Pattern and Syllabus
The Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC CHSL) exam is a prominent recruitment examination conducted for various government posts. SSC CHSL conducts examinations for the recruitments of the following posts:

Tier– I: Computer Based Examination
This is an objective type of paper consisting of four sections: English Language(Basic Knowledge), General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skills), and General Awareness.

Tier– II: Descriptive paper
Tier – II is a descriptive paper conducted in pen and paper mode, aiming to evaluate the writing skills.
Scheme of Tier– II: Descriptive paper
Sections and Topics Covered:
Candidates are required to write an essay and a letter/application based on given topics. It consists of:
Essay Writing (200 – 250 words)
Candidates have to write an essay on a given topic.
The essay can cover various subjects, including current affairs, social issues, environment, technology, etc.
Letter/Application Writing (150 – 200 words)
Candidates need to write a letter or an application addressing a specific situation or authority.
This may include formal or informal letters, job applications, complaints, requests etc.
Tier – III: Typing Test/ Skill Test
Scheme of Tier– III: Typing Test/ Skill Test
Typing test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant LDCs, and court clerks: Candidates need to type at a minimum speed to qualify for this test.
Skill test for Data Entry Operator: This test requires candidates to have a data entry speed of a certain number of key depressions per hour.

Syllabus of Tier- II Descriptive paper
Tier-II is a descriptive paper of 100 marks and is conducted in pen and paper mode. It is to be written either in Hindi or in English. The candidates are required to write an essay of 200-250 words and a letter/application of approximately 150-200 words.
Syllabus of Tier- III Typing Test/ Skill Test
This tier is for the skill test or typing test. The skill test is applicable for the Data Entry Operator (DEO) post, and the typing test is applicable for the posts of Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant.
