SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Stenographer Grade C and D examinations to recruit candidates for the positions of Stenographer in various government departments and offices.

SSC Stenographer Posts

Stenographer Grade ‘C’:
The Grade ‘C’ Stenographer responsibilities and requirements.
The minimum educational qualification required is 10+2 (Intermediate).
Candidates should have a typing speed of 100 words per minute.

Stenographer Grade ‘D’:
The Grade ‘D’ Stenographer responsibilities.
The minimum educational qualification required is 10+2 (Intermediate).
Candidates should have a typing speed of 80 words per minute.

Job Responsibilities:
Their primary duties include:
Taking Dictation: Stenographers are often required to take dictation from officers or authorities in shorthand during meetings, interviews, or other events.
Transcription: They transcribe the dictated content into written form, ensuring accuracy and maintaining the required typing speed.
Typing Correspondence: Stenographers may be involved in typing various official documents, letters, and reports.
Maintaining Records: They may assist in maintaining and organizing records and files.

Syllabus of SSC Stenographer Examination

Analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. Abstract ideas and symbols and their relationship, arithmetical computation and other analytical functions.To test the ability of the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around her/him and its application to society. To test the knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects. The test will also include questions relating to India and its Neighboring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. For VH candidates of 40% and above visual disability /cerebral palsy affected candidates and opting for scribe there will be no component of Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data in the General Intelligence & Reasoning / General Awareness Paper.To test the candidates’ understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. And her/his writing ability would also be tested.
